Introducing our kids and youth programs at Mount Dennis BJJ! Each group offers an approach to learning designed for a different stage of your child’s development.

🔴 LITTLE KIDS | AGES 4-6
Move. Play. Discover.

A playful introduction to jiu-jitsu through movement, games and activities. Children build coordination, confidence and comfort with training partners in a shorter class designed for our youngest students.

🔴 KIDS | AGES 6-10
Build skills. Develop control.

We combine active games and grappling challenges with more structured teaching. Students learn to follow instructions, practise techniques with a partner and train with control, including an introduction to submissions and tapping. There’s still plenty of fun, with more opportunities to put their skills into practice.

🔴 YOUTH | AGES 10-14
Focus. Refine. Grow.

More focused instruction, fewer games and deeper technique practice. Students build their skills, independence and responsibility in a class that gradually prepares them for the structure and expectations of adult training.

ROOM TO GROW AT AGES 6 & 10

You’ll notice our age groups overlap. That’s intentional!

At six and ten, children can attend both neighbouring groups as they transition. With Coach Scott’s guidance, they can spend up to a year continuing in their familiar class while gradually joining the next group.

For children starting jiu-jitsu at these crossover ages, we recommend beginning in the younger group. This gives them time to settle in, learn the basics and build confidence before taking the next step.

Readiness involves more than a birthday. We consider confidence, size, training experience and comfort with following instruction to help each child find the right fit.

As our academy grows, we’re continuing to develop our programs around the children we teach. Our goal is to give every student an environment where they can learn, feel included and enjoy coming back.
